Dollywood is Born
In 1986, Dolly Parton opened Dollywood, a theme park in the Great Smoky Mountains, to give back to her community. Growing up in poverty in nearby Sevierville, Tennessee, Dolly wanted to create jobs and bring tourism to the region she loved so much.
More than just an amusement park, Dollywood celebrates Appalachian culture, featuring local crafts, music, and traditions. Dolly has provided countless opportunities for her hometown through the park, turning it into a thriving destination.
