I was a little doubtful about this one, so I went and looked it up. After all, the only thing I have to go off of to get this bear’s name is the word on his hat, and it could just as easily have meant “Smokey the Bear” as “Smokey Bear.”

But no, the Internet confirms that there is no “the” in his name, despite many people saying it that way. Personally, I’m not sure if I remember him having red suspenders or not. I can picture him wearing them, but it might just be the power of suggestion from me reading this post. Our brains are weird like that.
